Easy Mustache Cookies (Tutorial)

Mustaches are one of those raving fads that have continued for a few years now.
In general, they are not very hard cookies to make.
But using a cutter/stamper set makes them super duper easy!

The Cutters/Stampers can be purchased HERE.

http://www.karenscookies.net/Munchstache-Cookie-Cutter-Set_p_2002.html

Use the cutter part to cut out the cookie dough.
Bake and cool as usual.

Outline and flood the entire cookie in black glaze (or brown, gold or gray).

Allow to dry for about 4 hours.
Press the stamper portion into the partially dried glaze.

And you have an easy-peasy set of mustache cookies.....

BarberShop Cookie Collection

This Fathers Day theme was one of those ideas that grew and grew.
Eventually I had to limit myself, because there were so many possibilities.
To say I had fun would be an understatement. ;)

The old-time barber shop that I can remember from growing up
brings back fond memories of my dad.
He's been gone for 13 years and I miss him.

To all the fathers out there.....we are thrilled that you are in our lives and
that you contribute so much to who we are.

Thank you Dad!
Have a cookie. :)

Barber Pole Cookie (Tutorial)

As I began looking for Fathers Day ideas on the internet for this year's cookies,
a barbershop theme came to the forefront along with the soda pop theme.

And one of the first things that comes to mind when I think of a barbershop.......the pole.

Using this relatively common plaque shape, cut out the sides with a square cutter as shown below.

After the cookies have been baked and cooled,
outline and flood the top and bottom "metallic" parts of the pole with gray glaze as seen below.

Allow the glaze to dry for about 30 minutes, and then outline and flood a long oval
over the gray areas on both top and bottom as shown below.

Wait about 30 min to add an accent line across the ovals.
Also, outline and flood the center of the pole with white glaze.

Allow the white to dry a couple of hours (to prevent bleeding) before adding
red and blue stripes as shown below.

Dry overnight.

Paint the metallic top and bottom of the pole with silver metallic paint
or silver luster dust combined with a small amount of vodka.

Fathers Day Casual Shirt Cookie (Tutorial)

Now that we've done a more dressy collared shirt cookie for Dad on Fathers Day,
let's make a casual shirt cookie with a pocket and buttons.

The cookie shape is simple........a large square. :)
Using additional cookie dough, cut out a collar and a pocket and
place them on top of the cookie before baking.
(I used the straight edge of the large square cutter to cut out these shapes.)

After the cookie is baked and cooled, flood the entire cookie in your-color-of-choice glaze.

Be careful not to use too much glaze around the edges of the collar/pocket causing it to pile up and take away from the contrast of the different cookie heights.

In this example cookie, a plaid pattern was added....
but feel free to leave the shirt plain or add your own pattern.

Allow the cookie to dry for at least 30 minutes.
Outline the color and pocket in the same color glaze.

To add stitches, allow the glaze to dry for a couple of hours.
Poke evenly space holes along the edges with a cake tester or other round tool.
Then pipe stitches across ever two holes as shown below.
(Please excuse the blurry photo.)

While the cookie is drying overnight, mold 2-3 small buttons in a silicone mold using edible clay.

Place the buttons on the side of the shirt (under the collar) and add some glaze stitches on the buttons.
