Barber Pole Cookie (Tutorial)

As I began looking for Fathers Day ideas on the internet for this year's cookies,
a barbershop theme came to the forefront along with the soda pop theme.

And one of the first things that comes to mind when I think of a barbershop.......the pole.

Using this relatively common plaque shape, cut out the sides with a square cutter as shown below.

After the cookies have been baked and cooled,
outline and flood the top and bottom "metallic" parts of the pole with gray glaze as seen below.

Allow the glaze to dry for about 30 minutes, and then outline and flood a long oval
over the gray areas on both top and bottom as shown below.

Wait about 30 min to add an accent line across the ovals.
Also, outline and flood the center of the pole with white glaze.

Allow the white to dry a couple of hours (to prevent bleeding) before adding
red and blue stripes as shown below.

Dry overnight.

Paint the metallic top and bottom of the pole with silver metallic paint
or silver luster dust combined with a small amount of vodka.
