Christmas Wreath Decorated Cookie (Tutorial)

Oh how I love an evergreen-filled Christmas wreath! 

And when I found this cute baby bib cutter with a huge bow on top, I  knew it would be the perfect cutter to create a Christmas wreath. 

Once the cookie is baked and cooled, use a boo boo stick or toothpick to etch lightly on the cookie surface, making a circle in the middle and an outline of the bow portion. [This will give you a reference of where to pipe the glaze.]

Outline and flood the main wreath with green glaze.

Allow the flood to dry for at least 30 minutes, and then start making random lines with green glaze all over the wreath to represent the evergreen sprigs.

Add random brown glaze lines to represent the wood branches.

Allow the initial lines to dry for at least 15 minutes and then beginning adding smaller green lines to represent all the needles. (This is a tedious part, but it's worth the textured look that results from taking the time to do it.)

Allow the green glaze to dry for a couple of hours before adding the red glaze. [This is to prevent the red from bleeding into the green.] Outline the entire red bow portion with red glaze.

Add red dots to the wreath to represent berries.

After the initial red glaze has dried for about 1-2 hours, add a 2nd layer of outline and flood to the main portion of the bow as shown in the photo and video. This provides a 3D effect for the bow to stand out.

Outline the outer ribbon ends with red glaze.

Stick Feather Turkey Decorated Cookie Collection (Tutorial)

I saw a cute rustic Thanksgiving wall hanging using long rectangular sticks for turkey feathers.....and couldn't resist making the design into cookies.

Cutters used include a hexagon cutter, SweetSugarBelle's snowman cutter found in ShapeShifters set, and a long thin rectangle cutter (1"x5.5"). You'll need at least 8 "feather" sticks for the platter.

Outline and flood the hexagon cookies with brown glaze. 

Outline and flood the snowman cookie creating a turkey head and neck with brown glaze (see photo and video).

Outline and flood the rectangular sticks in various colors to represent the turkey's feathers. 

After the hexagon has dried for approximately 2 hours, use the scalloped edger from SweetSugarBelle's Shapeshifter's set to create rows of feather marks down the cookie as seen in the photo and video.

Add white eyes (with brown dots added in middle) and a gold beak to the turkey's face. (see photo and video)

After the turkey head has dried overnight, add eyebrow and beak lines using a black foodcolor marker, and a red "gobbler" using red glaze. (see photo and video)

Assemble the pieces as shown on a platter to display the turkey in all his cute-ness. :)

Fall Picket Fence Decorated Cookie (Tutorial)

There's something so quaint and rustic about cute little picket fences. And I love them in an autumn scene. So when I found this adorable fence cookie cutter, I was anxious to create some fall cookie collections with it. :)

As I'm always trying to make cookie designs as 3D as possible, here's a way to give these fences dimension. (see photos and video)
Cut a second thin cut-out of the fence and trim the vertical planks as shown and lay them across the base fence cut-out to make the fence planks stand out.
Use a small rectangle cutter (I used the smallest cutter in this set) to trim in between each plank in the appropriate spots (see video).

Outline and flood the vertical planks and then each in-between horizontal plank (see video) with white glaze.

Allow the fences to dry overnight.

Brush the planks and creases with dry gray dust for shadowing.

Build a little autumn scene with mini pumpkins, leaves, acorns and even a rake cookie.

Honey Jar Decorated Cookie (Tutorial)

Harvest time brings the opportunity for jars of yummy-ness......honey, jelly, jam, and more!
And the cute containers make the delicious treat even more special.

Start with a container or jar-shaped cookie. There's tons of choices of mason jar cutters and the like out there. The site where I purchased the honey jar is not available right now to share a link. :(

You'll also need a mini plaque cutter to create a cute tag cookie that you can tie onto your jar.  Be sure to cut out a hole in the top using a straw.

Outline and flood the bottom portion of the jar with glaze.

Outline and flood the tag with white glaze.

After allowing the initial glaze to dry for at least 30 minutes, add an outline and flood of tan glaze to the lid and top rim of the jar to resemble a burlap cover.

Once the tan glaze has dried overnight, use a mixture of caramel dust and alcohol (or clear flavoring like almond) to paint on lines to the "burlap" cover of the jar.

Brush the tag with caramel dust to give it a rustic- antiqued look.

Using a black food color marker, add words, dots, lines, and/or embellishments to the tag.

Thread food-safe twine or string through the hole of the tag and tie it to the jar.

Harvest time cuteness....coming right up!
