Rustic Patriotic Tag Decorated Cookies (Tutorial)

I love the rustic look so much! Before I started these cookies, I had a technique in mind to try.....and in the middle of the experiment, I accidently scraped some of the color off the top  of the cookie and realized.....THAT'S IT! That's the look I was going for. :)

To make tag cookies, you can use just about any shape and then use a straw to cut out a hole on one side of the shape. For these particular cookies, I used the tea bag cutter from That's A Nice Cookie Cutter designed for me to complete the Tea Time for Mom Decorated Cookie Collection. It has a tag hole built right into the cutter.

Once the cookies are baked and cooled, brush dry chestnut and caramel elite colors over the top of the cookie surface. (see photo below)

Combine a small amount of vodka (or clear extract, i.e. almond extract) with royal blue and red rose elite dusts separately to make blue and red "paints".

Brush the paint roughly over the cookie making sure it is not uniform in order to give it that rustic, primitive look.

Then....here's the fun discover......use a small knife or thin flat surfaced tool to scrape random parts of the painted color off the tag.

Also, if you'd like to add a shape on top of the tag, find a correctly sized mini cookie cutter and press it into the still wet "paint" to make an impression you can use later to pipe the shape with glaze. (see photo below)

Allow the cookie to dry for at least an hour and then outline and flood the shape over the top of the painted surface.

If desired, you can add an aged-look to the piped shape once it has dried overnight by brushing it with dry brown dust.

Rustic Thanksgiving Pumpkin Decorated Cookies

I can never decorate too many pumpkin cookies during this season.
I love dreaming up as many designs and textures on cookies as possible.
This year was no exception.

We're getting our Thanksgiving "on" in a rustic pumpkin-kind-of-way.

Check out this Textured Pumpkin Decorated Cookie Tutorial for one of the techniques shown in some of the pumpkins above.

May your Thanksgiving be filled with lots of pumpkins!

It's time to celebrate the land of the free and the home of the brave.
I'm so grateful to live in this county and enjoy all the freedoms given by our Founding Fathers.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.
Psalm 33:12

May God bless America.....

Happy Independence Day!!!!

Patriotic Stitched Star Decorated Cookies (Tutorial)

Patriotic stars are brought to life by layering cookies and adding stitches.

Cut two sizes of star cookies, a smaller one that can fit on top of a larger one.

Completely cover the smaller star with glaze (sides and all).
After the wet glaze has sat for about 5-10 min, use a spatula to carefully remove the star from the original parchment paper, and transfer to a clean piece of parchment paper.
This helps remove some of the excess glaze pooling around the cookie.
(see photos below)

Outline and flood the larger star with red or blue glaze.

After the two sizes of cookies have dried for about 1 hour,
use a cake tester and make "stitch holes" around the edges of both.

Use the matching color of glaze for each star, pipe stitches around the edges.

Allow the cookies to dry overnight.
"Glue" the small star onto the top of the large star with extra glaze.

Patriotic Mason Jar Decorated Cookies (Tutorial)

Mason jar decor continues to be very popular.
Adding some patriotic stars and stripes to mason jar cookies is easy and fun.

There are many mason jar cutters available to purchase.
One of my favorites (and the one used here) is the tall and thin mason jar cutter from Ann Clark.

Outline and flood the cookies with red and/or navy glaze as seen below.

Allow the cookie to dry overnight.

Using Americolor Bright White color gel, paint on stars and/or stripes to the mason jars.
Perfection is not expected since this style is rustic and random. :)
(I apologize for failing to take a photo of the painting process.)
