Piano Keys Decorated Cookie (Tutorial)

I have a good friend who is a piano teacher. She wanted music related cookies to share with her students and families during their spring piano recital. We discussed possible designs, and I immediately thought of doing a 3D piano keys cookie.

I googled piano keys and found this terrific photo. I printed the photo out and cut out a portion with only three white keys and two black keys. I used this "template" to help me divide up the rectangular cookie shape I cut out that was approximately the same size.

Before baking, use a cake tester to divide the dough evenly into three white keys. Push an actual dividing line between the "keys" with the cake tester. (see photo below)

Next, cut out long thin stips of dough (rolled very thin) and lay them on top of the cookie in the spots that correspond with the black keys on the template. (see photo below)

Trim off the top of the added dough strips to make all the keys straight across on top.

Bake and cool the cookies as usual.

Outline and flood the white keys. Outline and flood the elevated black keys. (see photo below)

Such fun cookies to celebrate a piano recital. :)

Bouquet

It's been quite a while since I've done a cookie bouquet. I always thought they would be so cool to receive and I've wanted to make them, but no one ordered them. Whenever I made one up ahead hoping to sell it, I rarely did, so I stopped making them. :(

How cool that Amy ordered one from me for a gift she wanted to give this week. It made me happy to get out my sticks, green foam, containers, and tissue paper to make a creation.

And here's what I came up with.....

Thanks for the order, Amy. I loved making this bouquet. :)

Musical Cookies

Here's something a little different for me. A friend gave me the cutest set of mini-musical cookie cutters and I decided to try them out by making cookies for our church choir. We had some time off after Easter and were coming back last night to start new music at rehearsal......so I took them cookies to enjoy. :)

I searched online for this set of Fox Run mini-cookie cutters (they come in a round tin), but I could not find them. My friend bought them down in a little shop on Main Street, St. Charles. I guess they are not available online. :(

GOOD NEWS....I found the cutters here!

Here's the mini musical cookies.....

And then the whole set I did for choir which includes larger notes and treble clefs.

Today I'm finishing a cookie order for Blue Birthday Bugs for Liza's birthday. :)
