After arriving home from CookieCon 2015 last fall,
I was excited to find a perfect purple color from Progel!
And what better time to display it's beauty than for a winter snowflake theme. :)
All of these snowflakes have been embellished with a texture BEFORE the cookie was baked.
To preserve the embossed surface, I just added a luster dust to bring out the textures.
Silicone texture mats worked best to imprint cookie dough
as it doesn't adhere to the dough like plastic texture mats do.
If added stability is needed, freeze the cookie dough in the mold for about 5-10 minutes
before popping it out of the mold.
There is more than one way to emboss cookie dough.
One way is to roll out the dough, press the mat into the it, and then cut out the shape.
For the photo below, I used these mats:

Another way is to use single molds and add the design on top of an already-cut cookie dough shape.
(Note: You may have to bake cookies longer when they are extra thick because of additions.)
Below, I used one of the molds from this Karen Davies Vintage brooch set and
then this beautiful Katy Sue heart lace mold.
[Note: The larger circle brooch on the left was a mold from Etsy
that doesn't appear to be available anymore. :( ]
After the cookies are baked and cooled,
add some clear flavoring (almond or lemon) or vodka to some silver luster dust
and brush it over the embossed designs.
You can do the same with colored pearl dusts like this beautiful purple one.
If desired, add some colored flooded glaze or some piped dots and lines
to surround the embossed pieces.
